Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about SpriteFrame.
About SpriteFrame
What is SpriteFrame?
SpriteFrame is a pixel art and sprite creation app for iPad. It’s built around multi-frame canvases with non-destructive layers, so you can draw sprites, animations, and game assets with iPad-native touch controls.
How much does it cost?
SpriteFrame is free to download. The Free tier covers the core drawing workflow with some limits (see below). Pro is a one-time in-app purchase that removes those limits.
What devices does it run on?
iPadOS 17.0 or later.
What languages does it support?
The app supports 14 languages: German, English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

Can I resize a canvas after creating it?
Canvas size is set at creation and can’t be changed afterward. Start a new canvas at the size you need.
How do I rename or duplicate a canvas?
From the gallery, long-press (or use the context menu on) a canvas thumbnail to rename or duplicate it.
How do I find a canvas in a large gallery?
The gallery has search, sorting, and favorites. Type in the search field to filter canvases by name, change the sort order (by modified or created date, by name, or by most recently opened), mark canvases as favorites with the star, and turn on Favorites Only to show just those.
Drawing and tools
What tools are available?
Eight tools: pencil, eraser, fill, line, rectangle, circle, replace, and move. See Drawing Tools for details on brush size and color selection.
Can I use Apple Pencil?
Yes — SpriteFrame supports Apple Pencil alongside finger touch input.
Layers and frames
How many layers can a frame have?
There’s no fixed limit on layers per frame; at least one must always remain.
How many frames can a canvas have?
Up to 8 on Free, unlimited on Pro. See Frames and Animation.
Importing from photos
What happens to colors that aren’t in a preset palette?
They’re approximated using dithering rather than simply snapped to the nearest palette color, which gives a smoother-looking result. See Import from Photo.
Exporting
What export formats are available?
Two formats: a sprite sheet PNG (frames laid out in rows), or an animated GIF (Pro). Both support configurable scale, and the sprite sheet adds row layout and a transparent background option. See Exporting Your Work.
Why can’t I use 4× or 8× scale?
Those scales require Pro. Free accounts are limited to 1× and 2×.
Feedback and support
How do I report an issue or send feedback?
